The University of Beira Interior (UBI) is one of the youngest public universities in Portugal and a member of UNITA (Universitas Montium), an alliance of 6 European mountain universities, all Romance-speaking, committed to promoting the socio-economic development of rural and cross-border mountain areas. However, UBI's educational and research activities cover almost all areas of knowledge and it has about 9,000 undergraduate and graduate students. UBI's quality in teaching, research and innovation has been recognized by its presence in the U-Multirank, in the Top 200 of the THE Young University Ranking, and in the 601-800 level of THE's World Universities Ranking.
